The University of Redlands outdoor track and field teams set nine new Top-10 times and marks last week at the Redlands Invitational, including a middle-distance school record from a familiar face, junior Stian Asper (St. Paul, Minnesota).
Men
Junior Jaiden Coleman (Las Vegas) ran a 10.44 in the 100m finishing fourth. His time moves him into third place all time in program history and No. 2 in Division III. He also added a seventh-place finish in the 200m (21.64).
In the middle distances two more Top 10 times were posted, first with junior Matthew Farnsworth (Palos Verdes Estates) in the 1500m. He won the race in 3:57.46, the new 10th-fastest time in program history.
Next in the 3000m Asper won the race in 8:36.20, setting the program record by 4.14 seconds over senior Ronan Byrne's (Portola Valley, California) time, which came at the same meet last spring.
Junior Christian Ferguson (San Diego) is only the fourth Bulldog from the 21st century to post a Top 10 mark in the Hammer and the first from the 2020's as he moved up into second place all time with a first attempt throw of 53.22m, 174' 7".
The fifth Top 10 athlete was grad student Nikolas Sorich (San Jose) in the Decathlon where he scored 5716 points, which tied him with Afari La-Anyane for the 10th-highest total. In the Decathlon he posted personal bests in the Javelin (44.78m | 4th place), Pole Vault (3.60m | 5th), Discus (32.61m | 4th), and Shot Put (12.28m | 1st).
Women
The three Top 10 athletes on the women's side were all Heptathletes including seniors Elisabeth Eichinger (Yucaipa) and Madison Eaton (Rocklin, California), and junior Shaylee Heron (Payson, Arizona).
Eichinger was the event runner up with 4456 points, but it was her 100m Hurdle time of 15.00 that moved her into ninth place in program history. She now ranks No. 3 in Division III.
Eaton took seventh with 3692 points, the eighth-most in program history. She posted five personal bests across the seven events including the 800m (2:44.57 | 8th), Javelin (24.66m | 9th), 200m (27.94 | 12th), High Jump (1.59m | 1st), and 100m Hurdles (16.75 | 10th). She had a second Top 10 mark as her High Jump of 1.59m, 5' 2 ½" is the ninth-best all time.
In eighth place overall with 3681 points was Heron. Her point total is the ninth-most in program history. She finished with three personal bests: 800m (2:44.92 | 10th), 200m (28.26 | 13th), and High Jump (1.44m | 6th). Another highlight on the women's side was freshman Elaine Dugmore (Hawthorne, California) with a pair of PR's coming in the 800m where she placed 3rd overall with a time of 2:24.82 and the 3000m where she finished 4th overall with a time of 10:59.76.
The Bulldogs return to the track this Sunday, March 29 as they head to Whittier College for the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Quad Cup No. 2.
