Pitcher/Designated Player Katlyn Gandara was the ultimate "dual threat" this weekend. Between earning two wins in the circle (including a 63-pitch shutout), hitting a three-run home run, and racking up multiple extra-base hits.
Saturday: Series Sweep of Occidental
Redlands completed their series sweep of the Tigers with an 11-4 victory followed by a 6-0 shutout.
Game 1 (11-4): The Bulldogs broke the game open with a six-run third inning, highlighted by a two-run triple from senior Adyson Kim and an RBI single from senior Redlands product Maya Holshoe. Senior Katlyn Gandara and Holshoe each finished with three hits, while junior pitcher Paige Ellinger earned her fourth win with four scoreless innings.
Game 2 (6-0): Gandara took over in the nightcap, launching a three-run home run in the sixth to put the game away. She also earned her eighth win of the season, throwing five scoreless frames before Ellinger closed the door. Senior Brooklyn Bard ignited the offense early with a triple and two runs scored.
Sunday: Dominance Over Williams College
Brooklyn Bard’s ability to get on base via hits and walks — coupled with her aggressive base running (including 3 steals in a single game) — was an engine behind the Bulldogs' high-scoring innings.
The momentum carried into Sunday as the Bulldogs allowed just one run in a doubleheader sweep of the Ephs (6-0 and 11-1).
Game 1 (6-0):Katlyn Gandara was nearly untouchable, needing only 63 pitches to toss a three-hit shutout. The offense was fueled by sophomore infielder Avery Provenzano, who stole home in the fourth, and Maya Holshoe, who recorded her fifth hit of the weekend.
Game 2 (11-1): The Bulldogs effectively ended the game in the first inning by plating 10 runs. Senior Adyson Kim delivered the big blow with a three-run double, while junior Leila Gomez and Gandara added RBI hits to the early barrage. Freshman Caitlynn Griffith earned the win in relief after junior pitcher Paige Ellinger provided two scoreless frames to start.
Up Next: The Bulldogs have Monday off before returning to the "Field of Dreams" on Tuesday, March 24, for a doubleheader against Elmhurst University starting at noon.
