Police Investigate Possible Gang-Related Shootings

Redlands Police Department is investigating a series of shootings reported late Sunday night, including one that ended when the intended victims’ vehicle crashed. One person in the vehicle was transported to the hospital with a superficial gunshot wound. Two others received minor injuries in the collision.

Officers initially responded to numerous 911 calls reporting a drive-by shooting in the 1000 block of Carlson Avenue shortly before 11 p.m. Sunday, March 22.

Victims reported shots were fired by the occupants of a dark-colored sedan who flashed gang signs as the residents retreated into their home. Several bullet casings and bullet strikes were located, but no injuries were reported.

As officers were arriving on scene, numerous additional 911 calls reported another shooting and vehicle collision at Delaware Avenue and Washington Street. Responding officers found a victim vehicle with numerous bullet holes that had collided into two parked vehicles.

Three occupants were inside the vehicle, including one with a superficial gunshot wound to his head. The driver and a second passenger had minor injuries from the collision but did not require medical treatment. The gunshot victim was transported to the hospital, and the wound was found to be non-life-threatening. He was reported in stable condition.

The victims reported that they were confronted by the occupants of a dark colored sedan as they arrived at the apartment complex at Delaware Avenue and Orange Street.  The occupants of the sedan reportedly flashed gang signs and the victims fled in their vehicle west on Delaware Avenue.

The suspect vehicle followed and the occupants began firing at the fleeing vehicle, until the victim vehicle crashed.

Following the collision, the suspects continued to fire as their vehicle drove away south on Washington Street.

Additional bullet casings were recovered on Delaware Avenue west of the apartment complex and at the site of the collision.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about the shootings, the suspect vehicle or its occupants is asked to contact the Redlands Police Department Investigative Services Bureau at (909) 798-7659.
