Moore Middle School Put On Lockdown After Student Found With Loaded Gun

Redlands Police arrested a 12-year-old student and his parents Thursday afternoon after school officials discovered a loaded handgun in the student's backpack at Moore Middle School.

School administrators received a tip from a student at approximately 1 p.m. alleging that a student was displaying a bullet during lunch. Officials and campus security quickly located the student and discovered a loaded handgun inside his backpack. The student was detained until police arrived.

The campus remained under lockdown for several hours while Redlands Police and campus safety officials conducted a secondary search of the grounds.

Investigators determined the student brought the weapon from home to show to peers. Authorities confirmed no threats were made against the campus, students, or staff.

The student was arrested for possession of a firearm on school grounds. His parents were also arrested on charges of improper storage of a firearm. The investigation remains ongoing.

The Redlands Unified School District has scheduled a public information meeting for 5 p.m. Thursday in the school’s multipurpose room. School officials, campus safety officers, and Redlands Police will be in attendance to address parental concerns.

Anyone with information regarding this incident or other suspicious activity is urged to contact Redlands Police Dispatch at (909) 798-7681, ext. 1.
