Police Investigate Fatal Hit-and-Run Involving Motorcyclist

REDLANDS — Redlands Police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run collision that killed a 73-year-old motorcyclist on Highway 38 on Tuesday evening, June 9.

Officers responded shortly after 5:30 p.m. to Highway 38 between Amethyst and Garnet streets. According to investigators, an unidentified vehicle collided with the motorcycle, ejecting the Redlands man from his bike.

Leaking fuel caused the motorcycle to ignite, burning the victim. Bystanders assisted in extinguishing the flames and administered CPR until Cal Fire paramedics arrived. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities have not yet released his identity.

The driver of the vehicle fled eastbound on Highway 38 immediately following the crash. Witnesses described the suspect vehicle as a gold or tan four-door sedan with major collision damage to the driver's side.
