Bulldogs Surge in Second Half to Top Marian

Avery Stunz scored the game-winning goal in the 74th minute to break a 1-1 tie and complete the second-half comeback.

SAN BERNARDINO — In its final home game away from Farquhar Field, the University of Redlands women's soccer team scored three unanswered goals in the second half Friday evening to defeat Marian University (Wis.), 3-1, at San Bernardino Valley College.

Trailing 1-0 in the second half after an official own goal in the opening period, San Diego senior Madeline Tetens capitalized on a Marian defensive miscue to tie the match. A Sabre defender sent a back pass to the goalkeeper with too much pace, and the attempted clearance fell directly to Tetens, who finished past the keeper.

With the match knotted at 1-1, junior Averie Stunz, of Stanwood, Washington, headed in a corner kick from San Jose freshman Kate Wagner in the 74th minute for the game-winning goal. Wagner sent the left-side corner into the middle of the six-yard box, where Stunz directed her header into the left corner of the net.

Freshman Katelyn Wallace, of Beaverton, Oregon, added an insurance goal less than two minutes later in the 75th minute, lifting a free kick from 35 yards out over the goalkeeper's hands and just below the crossbar.

Defensively, goalkeeper Nicole Immoos made nine saves while facing 13 total shots, 10 of which were on target.
