REDLANDS — The Redlands women's soccer team (3-9, 2-5 SCIAC) earned a 2-1 victory over Whittier College on Oct. 10 at Farquhar Field.
Freshman Kate Wagner, of San Jose, sent a cross into the box in the 25th minute where the ball short-hopped Claire Lucas and deflected off her shin, spinning into the bottom left corner of the net to put Redlands ahead 1-0.
In the 31st minute, senior Nicole Immoos, of San Luis Obispo, made her first save of the night. Immoos stopped two more shots in the 38th minute before the Bulldogs extended their lead just a minute later.
Maddie Wallner, a sophomore from Littleton, Colorado, passed to freshman Taylor Tidquist, of Snoqualmie, Washington, who finished the opportunity to give Redlands a 2-0 advantage.
Keira Hunt, a sophomore from Stony Brook, New York, forced two saves just five minutes after entering as a substitute, keeping the Bulldogs on the attack heading into the halftime break.
Redlands generated the first five shots on goal in the second half, with attempts coming from Temecula junior Mikaela Foster, Wallner, San Diego senior Madeline Tetens, junior Vanessa Martinez, of Mission Hills, and freshman Amanda Bear, of San Diego.
San Jose junior Rhiannon Waldschmidt came on in relief of Immoos to finish the match in goal, making four saves in her first five minutes of action.
The victory marked the second Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference win of the season for Redlands.
Whittier held a slight 20-19 edge in total shots and a 7-5 advantage in corner kicks. Both teams recorded eight saves, but the Bulldogs secured the 2-1 decision.
The win came on the heels of a 5-0 loss to Pomona-Pitzer on Oct. 7, a match in which Immoos recorded 20 saves — the fourth-most in a single game in program history.
Redlands returns to action Wednesday when it hosts Chapman University at Farquhar Field at 7 p.m.
