The annual New Year’s Eve Beach Ball Drop made a triumphant return to downtown Redlands on December 31st. The early evening celebration was designed to usher in the new year while ensuring its accessibility for families with children.
The festivities commenced at Ed Hales Park from 3 to 5 p.m., culminating in the iconic beach ball drop at 5 p.m. This year, the event, which was held on New Year’s Day culminating with celebrations in Greenwich, U.K., saw a few adjustments due to the rainy weather and the increased number of beach balls released. Instead of the traditional 750 beach balls, 1,000 were dropped from above the “Love” mural instead of being dropped inside the park.
The free event offered a variety of activities for all ages. Photo opportunities were all around, including a chance to meet Disney characters including Snow White, Mirabel Madrigal, a Jedi, and Christmas Belle.
A dedicated kids’ activity zone provided games from Board Game Paradise, live music, Dawgs for Dogs hot dogs, and treats from Lappert’s Ice Cream.
