The Redlands Area Historical Society (RAHS) and the Redlands Camera Club (RCC) have announced a new partnership to co-sponsor the Heritage Awards Photo Contest. This competition celebrates five decades of the city’s prestigious program dedicated to honoring Redlands’ architectural history.
The contest, which is currently open through April 30, 2026, invites residents of all ages—with dedicated categories for both adults and youth—to capture the character of the city’s Heritage Award-winning homes and buildings.
Honoring a Half-Century of History
The timing of the contest marks a significant milestone: the 50th Annual Heritage Awards. Since the program's inception in 1975, more than 400 structures have been honored for their architectural distinction and meticulous maintenance.
“The origination of the Heritage Awards... was driven by a desire to save historic structures from demolition,” said Judith Hunt, President of the Redlands Area Historical Society. “The 1970s were dark years for preservation and so many beautiful Victorian homes fell under the wrecking ball. By acknowledging the significance and history of the iconic architecture in Redlands... we continue to support and advocate for preservation.”
The Judging Panel
A distinguished panel of local leaders will select the winning entries:
Mario Saucedo, Mayor of Redlands
Judith Hunt, President of RAHS
Bruce Herwig, President of the Redlands Camera Club
“When preservation and creativity come together, our entire community benefits,” noted Herwig. “This partnership celebrates Redlands’ past through a shared love of history and photography.”
